Dear Alexander, this is situation when charged particles with extremally large energies (named as cosmic rays) interact with isotropic EM radiation (cosmic microwave background radiation). GZK-limit is the consequence of this interaction.

Alexander, mainly one can meet discussion about how electromagnetic field interacts with matter rather than vice versa. Some examples from astrophysics: books on stellar atmospheres (Dimitry Mihalas), Sunyaev–Zel'dovich effect (see Wikipedia), spectra of nebulae etc. You must clarify your task to get clear information.

I am familiar with general situation; in fact I myself published papers on how particle motion is affected by external radiation, albeit it was about a non-reltivistic case and involved resonances (I've predicted an effect of self-sustained oscillations of atom or ion in a blue-shifted laser radiation; it has been observed experimentaly by now). I am also familiar with more or less general astrophysics results . Let me get your attention to a specific term used by me: "reltivistic diffusion" --- note "diffusion". OK, just in case if you are unfamliar with the specifics (and my apology otherwise) -- two major factors dominate the study of the area: a damping force (and GZK-limit address the consequences of this effect) and a particle diffusion; of course they are related, and to the extent, the diffusion is limited by the damping force which would not allow a "run-away" diffusion. At the moment I am interested exactly in the relativistic damping force (and hope I am familiar enough with the literature; and GZK-limit is -- to a degree -one of them, although I am frankly more familiar with Greisen paper, which BTW is more concernd with pion production); but I wanted to have good references on the specifics of particle (in particular electron) diffuision in isotropic radiation, both low-temperature as in CMBR and in high-temperature limits (up to baryon formation era). David Burton here provided me with an interesting reference to Haba's work, but I would still be interested in other relevant research too. I'd appreciate it if you have those details, especially if you avoid 101 lecturing and read questions a bit more attentively.
