Dear Rama Cousik: Thank you for starting a dialogue on this important subject ! Just to start excahnging ideas, I wonder if the early ideas of Donald Schön have been further developed in recent times...
Thank you for referring to the work of Donald Schon! I really liked the idea that he compared teaching with jazz improvisation. Often I too find myself 'improvising' my teaching sessions, depending on the students' mood or engagement level.
Found someone whose research interests includes the topic at hand:
Farrell, T. S. (2012). Reflecting on reflective practice:(re) visiting Dewey and Schön. TESOL Journal, 3(1), 7-16.
This book has an entire chapter on the topic:
McKernan, J., & McKernan, J. (2013). Curriculum action research: A handbook of methods and resources for the reflective practitioner. Routledge.
Journal of teacher education is a great place to find latest on reflective practices. Apart from Schön, you may also like to read the work of the following three scholars: Pollard, Murray and June.
Thanks so much for references. I was aware of the journal but was looking for more. I briefly skimmed through Pollard and Collins' book 'Reflective Teaching' and found the perfect model on page 17 that I can use for my teaching which starts today!
