According to Paperna & Overstreet 1981, copepods of the genus Lernaeenicus have not been found in mugilids of your region; from India, the species Mugicola bulbosus is known from Mugilidae aquaculture. You would need to provide details for assistance on identification.
Paperna, I. & Overstreet, R. M. 1981. Parasites and diseases of mullets (Mugilidae). Pp: 411-493. In: Oren, O. H. (ed.): Aquaculture of grey mullets. Cambridge.
Sorry Ronald. It is Scomberomorus guttatus.I mixed up with other infested fish in the same bottle which is Liza and its parasite alsoapparantly looks a Lernaeid as I have not taken it out .I would appreciate if you help in the identification and if it turns out to be some new record pl honour us(me and Moazzam) as co author(L.hemirhamphus has been recorded from here). On hearing from u I will mail my note and figures and if possible will send the specimen.
I would suggest you consult the following papers for copepod parasites of Scomberomorus:
Cressey, R. F., Collette, B. B. & Russo, J. L. 1983. Copepods and scombrid fishes: a study in host-parasite relationships. Fishery Bulletin (U.S.) 81 (2): 227-265.
Sethi, S. 2013. Occurrence of parasitic copepods, Larnaeenicus sprattae on king mackerel (Scomberomorus commerson), along south-east of India. E-Planet 10 (2): 36-38.
On Scomberomorus, you will probably find Lernaeenicus sprattae rather than L. hemirhamphi.
but I read t hat Larnaeenicus sprattae is not a correct report from Indian ocean ..this i an Atlantic species..the two reports from India are based on misidentification ..what do u say
