We use piriform cortex in vitro slice preparation to evoke habituation according publication A.R. Best and D.A. Wilson Journal of Neuroscience 21 January 2004. We use exactly same protocol of stimulation and solution as in this paper. We tried numerous of recordings in adult and neonatal mice (C57 BL/6J) and rats (Sprague Dawley) and unfortunately we were able to get short term depression only in two from 25 recordings. To dissect piriform cortex with lateral olfactory tract spot we prepare 300 mkm coronal slices. We stimulate the axons in lateral olfactory tract which looks like black spot under up right microscope but white in reflected light. We record in Ia level in piriform cortex were dendrites located. Field potentials usually looks pretty good shape and exhibit pair-pulse facilitation. We are thinking that may be stimulatio/recording configuration isn't right.
