I can measure the in-situ strain during hot processing, but the strain is just on the metal surface, and strain including thermal, mechanical and maybe elastic/plastic, we also can measure the in-situ temperature. How to calculate the residual stress? Who can do some simulation or calculation on this issue?
You would require accompanying tests on the material, such as the free thermal expansion as a function of material temperature, also stress-strain curves generated at different uniform temperatures for the material. Also, if the process takes alot of time, high temperature creep might jump into picture.
I have done some work in this field and did many simulations to it. I can help if needed.
You need to establish first the material stress vs. [mechanical] strain behavior at different temperatures. Then there are two options, if the temperature doesnot rise above 400C you can use special strain gages to measure [total] strain in your specimen, after subtracting the thermal strain (from a separate stress-free test) you end up with mechanical strain, the only way to distinguish is to compare to the stress-strain curves. Option two is to carry out various possible simulation scenarios using the experimentally obtained stress-strain and thermal strain properties but on virtual specimen and compare to the global response of an experiment (like displacements or deformations).
I have to test mechanical proprety with a FEM software after the induction welding, but I don't understand how I can calculate the new allowable stress, I know that there is a change about interlaminar shear strenght, but I don't know how I can estimate this change and if there is also a change of propreties in Others directions.. The material is PPS/carbon fiber.
