This is a vast area you are referring to, and it will require pulling together a number of studies that explore the process. Attached is a good place to start. Take a look at this paper and let me know if you want to explore a specific dimension of hemispheric dominance.

Would recommend to contact Stefan Gutwinski at Charité in Berlin. He has done quite a bit of research on this topic.
There is a recent book by Clare Porac, a very experienced North American researcher on laterality.
