I am thinking about starting a revision of the genus and specimens from South-West India and Sri Lanka are essential for this. I can offer co-authorship on resulting papers
Ficopomatus enigmaticus, the species we need, was described in 1960 by the late Dr Gottfried Pillai who was working at Fisheries Research Station in Colombo at the time. I am now planning on a world-wide revision of Ficopomatus, an important invasive and fouling genus of Serpulidae, calcareous tubeworms. The species described by Dr Pillai has been subsequently reported from numerous localities around the world as an invasive species. I actually suspect that we deal with a large number of species. All I need for this project is a vial with several worms (they are about 1 cm long maximum) in calcareous tubes fixed in ethanol and collected anywhere along the West Coast of Sri Lanka. The original specimens were collected from the Panadura River estuary, Madu Ganga estuary at Balapitiya and Ratgama Lake at Dodanduwa. The animals were also collected from some fish-kraals across the estuary – see attached paper, page 28 for details. I am happy to include you as a collaborator in the project and as a co-author in the resulting paper(s) if we get the specimens. Please feel free to ask me any questions, I will be happy to answer them
