Yes, if social communication is taking place between specialists, well educated parties. Or, a very smart specialist may extract scientific theory by deeply analyzing social communication in general.
"Can social communication help to innovate and develop scientific theory?" -- You ask,
I think that that is the case.
1) Exchange of perpectives and viewpoints is often a way of teaching and learning. For example, If I get feeback from my colleages I can change or ameliorate my initial perspective.
2) Such an exchange of perspectices is particularly important if it takes places between experts in the same domain or even in different domain of knowledge.
3) Social commnication and exchange of knowldege often lies at the heart of a better knowlegede of the unknown and the propostion of new hypotheses and even theories.
Social communication and other communications contribute only to the exchange of information, revision and liquidation, and help in receiving criticism and analysis, all of which contribute to the innovation and development of scientific theories
