Can I use the perceived social support scale of Zimat in my thesis? Is it fine to using an old scale (1988) and what are the justifications or arguments that support that please?
I would have thought that if you could support your use if this scale in your thesis, then this explanation would be adequate. Do you have an academic supervisor who could advise you? He / she may know the preferences of those who will be marking your thesis.
But I did not know of this scale, so looked it up on Google. I didn't follow any of these links, but just noticed that they were recent and the majority were 2020, although I didn't look at how much they had used this scale, or if they had only referenced it. But their use (or just a reference) may be informative:
If you don't get many responses, you could look at these ResearchGate links and maybe see if you could discuss your question with RG members who are the authors, either on RG, or if they did not respond, at their academic base.
yes, you can use this scale for a few reasons. It is a short scale contains 12 items, it assesses the three type of social support. Moreover, it is a widely used scale globally to measure perceived social support.
