There are many reports of mishaps due to more litchi consumption. (https://www.the-scientist.com/news-opinion/mysterious-illness-linked-to-lychees-kills-children-in-india-66360) Investigators have raised the possibility that it’s not the lychees themselves that are to blame, but pesticides used on the farms. Recently two cases of sudden development of hypertension of unknown cause found. Investigation of CBC, S. creatinine, blood sugar, urine routine test was normal. Anti hypertensive drugs started but blood pressure not responding well at the usual dose. We thought it to be due to some exogenous cause and suspected it to more litchi consumption. After stooping litchi consumption both patients became normotensive within 24 hours without anti hypertensive drug. The pesticides used in litchi may be the major cause for development of hypertension.
