I would like to know whether presence of fatty acid salts in ester products (containing free fatty acids and mono, di and tri esters) could have possibly hindered the derivatization of free fatty acids but not the esters component?
This is because I have conducted several replicates with excess derivatization agent, and prolonged the derivatization time, but at times, replicate can complete derivatize the free fatty acid while at other times, they failed. Theoretically, the fatty acid salts are not visible in the GC chromatogram due to non-volatile property correct?
Looking forward to more insights on the analysis of free fatty acid and fatty acid salts in ester products.
