Grid Inertia is an impending problem if the traditional power systems are decommissioned and replaced with inverter based generation according to some literature. Please, can't this problems be solved by appropriate control active and reactive power ?
Yes, system stability, reliability and efficiency has increased considerably with increased solar and wind farms in system even interstate tie lines could be eliminated after study, recently in China 🇨🇳 though there was power shortage only central China was supplied power, without complete blackout or stability problems …….
The short answer is yes. But real and reactive power control cannot be enough an alternative to replace physical inertia in power systems (large-scale power systems).
Sudden change in active power demand(change in torque angle) which has reduced due to backup provided by batteries storage of solar farms and domestic solar plans would reduced the amplitude of oscillations or reduced the needed reactive power for stability or the inertia….
