I would appreciate any reference of publications containing good definitions for settlement and recruitment in sessile organisms.
The definition of recruitment usually varies depending on researcher and also resaearch field, so it is critical for you to make clear what you study in a series of larval recruitment (larval supply, settlement density, metamorphosing inds etc) of population/community ecology of corals.

The term might be defined "theoretically" as the settlement and methamorphosis of the larvae. However, this definition is not practical for field studies for several reasons. This is why the word recruitment in the literature may mean something different because it includes "survivorship" and asexual reproduction (growth) of the primary polyps (to produce the tiny 4-10 polyp juvenile that we can effectively see on the substrate). it is therefore important that you define what you consider as the metric "recruitment" in your work.
