Quantum Computers have an advantage over classical computers as they are based on quantum states which can be three 0, 1 or superposition of 0and 1. Till now classical had 0 or 1 states of transistors, but if a third state of infinit current is introduced, will it improve them? If we keep aside the engineering difficulty to realize it, in principle, will it reach quantum computer-like computational levels?
quantum computers are not at all superior to classical quantum in general. classical computers can do jobs a quantum computer can never do. the hype with quantum computing boiled down the last years.many people tried and unfortunately succeeded getting jobs by making ''a big wave'' with this topic. same happened with chaos theory and climate physics.
I am not a great supporter of the idea of quantum computers but I do understand that they can be very powerful in certain specific types of applications. The classical computer produces a definite and consistent result from a software algorithm such as addition and most of our scientific and business applications require this certainty. I think your suggestion of adding an additional state (0, 1 and infinity) to the binary choice of a classical computer does not make it equivalent to a quantum computer. If you think of a qubit as like a quantum spin direction with up and down and all points in between then it is not just three possible states but an infinite number of possible states in between 0 and 1.

It is possible to work with Qutrits states, which have 3 basis states : |0>, |1> and |2>. They can be seen as one ground state, and two different excited states.
In general, we call a Qudit, a single particle that can be expressed in a basis of d computational basis vectors.
A ternary computer which you described has actually been built before. There is an interesting wikipedia article available about it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ternary_computer
However, such a classical computer does still lack some of the ressources that a quantum computer provides, such as entanglement or true randomness.
In general it cannot be answered yet that a quantum computer is more powerful than a classical one (whether binary or ternary) because it has not yet been formally proven.
