Successful and advanced preventive medicine depends on availability of accessible, correct information, which represents a defined point of time and collected from different resources. This usually requires working with huge numbers and data specially when it deals with communicable disease control and surveillance systems.
So the question is: Can using computers and new information knowledge, equipment and software systems truly improve the quality of services provided to the community and eventually enhance better health status ?

All too often it is negative when health care providers (HCPs) are unaware of the preventive component of their work and if there are no incentives for actively engage in preventive measures (e.g. patient instruction and education to enhance self-efficacy). Once this disease is manifest and primary prevention has failed, secondary (e.g. foot care)and even tertiary (after an ulcer and/or an amputation) prevention continuously and progressively become more important. Health Information Systems can only be helpful to improve the preventive performance of HCPs (physicians, nurses etc.) if they allow longterm follow-up of outcome in the patient after an intervention and systematic feedback to the HCPs involved in the process.

HIS can help the hospitals productivity and patients treatment throuth better accessebility to information of patients & improve the process of treatment, work, surgery,... & creation one information bankes of patient data . HIS link all parts of a hospital e.g: lobratory, radiology, physiotheropy... to improve the treatment and diffrent Apps in thid system can help Accountants of hospitals to computing of patients bills.
Amir Khodadad yes dear .. you are absolutely right.. but I meant by my question is the field of "Preventive medicine".. not "curative medicine".. within a hospital setting, I might think of an example such as: "prevention of post operative infections",, so the question is: how HIS would help ?

The effectiveness of HIS for prevention depends not only on the actual performance of caregivers (in terms of their awareness of the importance of prevention) but also on the cultural context in which care is given. Patients with poor self efficacy and a low level of support by their peer group, and caregivers who see patients as passive objects rather than active subjects of their health maintenance can ruin the preventive instruments built into a HIS.
A HIS is useful in preventive medicine since it allows health care providers to accurately record the vital statistics of the clients/patients over time. Therefore, the records form a long term record of each client which can be used to ascertain their risk profile changes and also track if implemented interventions are resulting in sustained positive lifestyle changes.
