The selection of carbon black is primarily based on Oxygen Adsorption Number (OAN) rather than porosity. Electrical performance is directly proportional to OAN. So the higher OAN results in better electrical performance.

In case of binder, i would suggest you to use PVDF. (from my experience)

as it have

- low density compared to other fluoropolymers

- good mechanical strength compared to other fluoropolymers

- high permanent operating temperature (140°C)

- practically no moisture absorption

- good dimensional stability

- high chemical resistance

- good resistance to hydrolysis

- weather-proof

- radiation resistant

- high abrasion resistance 

Best conducting Carbon grade are prepared by Timcal, timcal C-65, timcal super p are one of the few brand

The conducting form of carbon is graphite. So you can measure the Lc using XRD. Higher value of Lc will give higher conductivity.

Super P carbon black has an excellent conductivity and give very good result when used as electrode with PTFE binder 

For what kind of electrode? Battery? EDL capacitor? Printed chemical/biochemical sensor? Generic working electrode? You'll find that, for the most part, how the electrode is prepared will impact performance more, and that carbon black is a mediocre electrode at best anyway.

Dear Sirs, Please suggest wheather thermal black or furnace black is suitable in manufacturing carbon electrodes for dry cell batteries ?

We are manufacturing carbon electrodes for dry cell batteries like "Nippo" and "Novino " i.e indian market . We are also exporting Europian countries Our company Name is M/s.Panasonic Carbon India Co Litd , India .

In our manufacturing process we are using carbon black as filler . At present we are using Furnace black i.e N774 . Earlier we have used thermal black . Hence we requested you to suggest which is better .
