I am planning to conduct exploratory research in the tourism area and now I am trying to develop a research method framework. Will it be appropriate if I follow the qualitative research method and in-depth interview technique to collect the data?
- If the answer is yes, can anyone suggest the literature which advocates using a Qualitative approach in exploratory social science research?
- Which references recommend using an in-depth interview technique?
Hello, yes, a qualitative approach using interviews is very appropriate in exploratory social science driven work. If you do a simple search using the terms "exploratory" and "interviews", limiting it to just the abstracts, in a selection of tourism and hospitality journals, you will find a long list of papers which explicitly justify this methodological choice because it helps to generate novel insights. I have attached three examples from tourism and hospitality contexts but there are loads more.
