I am not able to use formalin but need good fixation and long-term storage for soft-bodied soil invertebrates. Ethanol and propanol are reasonable storage media for many groups, but specimens should be fixed before storage in alcohols for best long-term use as vouchers, etc.
Organisms in which I am interested are small, soft-bodies soil inverrtebrates, including nematodes, tardigrades, small turbellaria, pauropods, symphyllids, collembola, protura, enchytreids, and small juveniles of some insects.
I have no access to fume hood, so must be able to manage any procedure outdoors or have products safe for use inside.

For enchytraeids Bouin's solution is frequently usrd but as it contains formaldehyde as well you could try its derivate the Gendre solution. Here you can find some info.

A recommended killing and fixing agent are mercuric chloride compounds. Steinmann's fluid is 1 part distilled water, 1 part concentrated nitric acid, and 1 part 5% sodium chloride in saturated mercuric chloride. Maybe some one with a lab, and fume hood, could make you a nice bottle of this and then you can use it in other situations. Susa's fixative is a saturated solution of mercuric chloride but his used at 60 degrees C. Both these could be used with some ventilation, and the first outdoors. Other possibilities are TAF (triethanolamine, ethanol, acetic acid) and lactophenol. I know there are others, but they are not coming to mind right now.
Ethanol with glycerol added is good for some, especially nematodes, tardigrades, rotifers, and others with a cuticle.
