I want to begin learning a vector drawing software that can help me draw high quality and attractive figures for my research. My particular focus is on drawing figures of MOFs and other nano particles.
The best known vector graphic software is Corel Draw. This software is very expensive. There is a open source free software available, which is not as mighty as Corel Draw but for many applications sufficient. The handling of both softwares is similar. www.inkscape.org. The actual highest version is release 0.92.3. Kind regards Christian
For drawing 3D structure of MOFs you must have .cif file of the synthesized MOFs. With this file you can draw crystal structure of your MOFs in two different softwares.
1] Mercury - This is more for beginners.
2] Crystal - This software is used to provide 3D structure of single crystal of the MOFs.
Rida Fatima you can find the cif files for most crystal structures (e.g., MOFs, photo catalysts, and others) online in vast databases such as Materials Project, Crystallography open database, and others. However, if you want to generate and visualize your own structure and you know the crystal parameters, you may use VESTA ( http://jp-minerals.org/vesta/en/ ) which is a free and powerful software. For completely new crystalline materials that you may synthesize in your lab, you will have to grow single crystals and subsequently characterize and register it online.
Rida Fatima there are many softwares (e.g., Xpert high score plus, diamond, GSAS, FullProf, MAUD, etc) to determine the crystal structure of any crystalline material. However most of these softwares are commercial packages. As Kumar Vikrant has already mentioned a very useful software (Vesta), which is free to use. Moreover, in the first step itself you must be able to grow a single crystal of your material to determine the crystal structure.
