I'm looking for a problem related to the environmental engineering field. With the use of optimization tools, I'm going to develop a model for the solution. It can be related to the Sustainability or LCA of a certain product. Thanks in advance.
In my opinion two contentious topics that are related to the field of environmental engineering are that of: energy poverty and the role of renewable energy sources (RES) or RES-based technologies' adopted at the level of national energy planning, as well as the technologies developed for the recovery of used or degraded materials, in the context of valuing depreciated matter for a second round of reuse. For both these topics the tool of sustainable LCA should be approached in an integrated manner, including the: a) technological processes involved, b) technological maturity, c) (economics) scaling prospects, and d) circular economy (CE) perspectives. For the first topic the food vs. fuels debate on cultivating energy crops and using biomass yields in biofuels production, while for the second topic the recovery and the reuse of processed waste materials, they should be investigated accordingly.
