Absorption of water in porous materials like concrete etc is the prime reason for durability issues.Colour changing agents which can show the extent and distribution of water absorption profile in samples can form a part of the overall research agenda.
the gamma rays attenuation is a very reliable method for determining the moisture content and concequently the presence of moisture in mortars and concretes. for more information I recommend you to read the article attached below.
Methylene blue in small amounts, but should be tested to make sure it doesn't effect hardening.

Indeed.I tested a combination of methylene blue and glucose in dry form the ratio 1:10 after splitting my samples.The powder showed a colour change to dark blue in those areas where water was present.This has been earlier used elsewhere also.The part on hardening is not coming into picture here as I am using it at later ages.
