1H NMR show an upfield shift and 13C NMR shows downfield shift, and vice versa. The correlation between the two signals was confirmed by HSQC. I would assume that more often than, not a downfield proton signal would correlate with a downfield carbon signal, but this was not the case. So in what situation does the proton and carbon not share the same deshielding effect? Thank you in advance.
Edit: I would like add that I'm studying a simple azo compound, not metal complexes nor coordination studies.
