I tried constructing long series by country on road infrastructure starting in 1965 (with a view to using this information in model of road accidents). The result is File AJD-7 at the bottom of the Safety page of Agora Jules Dupuit site (www.e-ajd.net). The site is fully bilingual (French and English. All data are documented. So you might be able to complete the series with the most recent data.

For roads, it is a long and difficult task because the definitions of road infrastructure differ across states and even amomg regions of a given state. Good luck.
