I have been teaching Practicum to Post graduate Education Students for the past four years. What we do is to conduct serminars/workshops on what is expected of a teacher or a teacher-manager in the real life situation ie in class or field.ie practical observation in real iife. After a week long serminar where we allow students to be the central focus,we move to 6weeks in the field. Now,becauese we dont have microteaching and micro-administrative labs here,we rely on observation. We supervise them and make reference to the things discussed in serminar..planning,organisatio,slection,budgeting,co-ordination,class management, record keeping, students guidiance/counseling,mentorship etc, then ,we advice on logbook completion ,then we also evaluate their final report which they submit following a guideline.this is for masters in educational mgt/admin.
For those doing teaching practice(Degree level)let the University develop a micro teaching lab.We have such lab in University of Nigeria Nsukka.Since there is little time for 6weeks teaching practice, use the micro teaching labs and the students will be adequately tutored to become great teachers in their various fields.hope this will help .
I've been teaching writing in biology for almost 10 years now, seeing close to 1000 students a year (how I manage is a different story!) This new way to self-reflect (and transferable to external assessments) on teaching was brought to my attention when I finished up my masters of education and I was particularly interested in the role of technology in education. This methods arose as a preservice self-assessment but has grown in its scope. TPACK covers technological, pedagogical and content knowledge and all its combinations and permutations.
