What are the alternative methods (excluding soxhelt method) that i can use in order to safely isolate temperature sensitive compounds from plant materials? Proven to be most effective up to now?
I aslo work with medicinal plants and would suggest decantation for 24hr or 48hr in methanol, with continuous shaking. Most of the compound will come out in methanol.
This is not an answer to your question. But as you are in the field of medicinal plant extraction, I have a suggestion you may try.
Our herbal medicines are always based on hot water extraction. Organic solvents may not extract what exactly we were tasting for ages. Try hot water instead organic solvents and see. You may find wonders.
At room temp with continuous stirring for 24h you prepare four different extracts using hexane, acetone, methanol and water as solvents differ in polarities then make phytochemical screening tests
Interesting suggestion. I am interested to know the effect of hot water extraction on temperature sensitive compounds. How about cold water percolation?
As per my idea I would like to say if you are using your compound as any nutrient or drug aspects you should isolate compound up to its original stability and activity. Apart from soxhlet Maceration technique you can use and the best temp is up to 40 C only because normally human body temp is 37 C so it may effective for body.
Natural herbs are commonly extracted with hot water in ancient Asia. Coldwater extraction has also been in use in sequence with grinding -pressing in man or animal driven extractors.
