I am trying to track down a study referenced in an article I read. Unfortunately, I can't remember which article. The study reported on a teacher's efforts to make literature relevant to inner-city kids by having them read a book related to their experience, except the students didn't find the book meaningful or relevant. The point made was that students have to own the relevance. Relevance is more of a personal choice and issue that we typically realize. Anybody know of this reference or a similar one?
Have you done a search of databases using the key words/ideas? I know this answer sounds very simplistic, but it is a starting point.
Start with simple oogle using keywords" teachers effort inner-city kids book" try also google scholar. Other keywords "students relevance own " . Play around with other significant words. Usually in my experience you will find the article. Dont start with proquest, jstor, muse or springer link. Later to pinpoint do you use those databases. Wish you success. Alfred Inkiriwang
Your article seems to be based on Relevance theory. So it may be citing the book that is the basis of this theory (or any other that followed it):
