I am working on the treatment of landfill leachate (Biological - Anaerobic, phytoremediation). The characteristics of the leachate I am collecting from the nearby dumpyard varies each time. So I am looking for a protocol to prepare synthetic leachate which can give me consistent composition.

You may also want to consider using the "extraction fluids" developed by the USEPA for the Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP). TCLPt has been widely used for over 30 years and is an industry standard for landfill leaching. The document is attached and recipes for the extraction fluids are provided.

I have prepared synthetic landfill leachate specifically aiming heavy metals (please see attached paper DOI:10.1007/s11356-014-2625-1). You are correct, landfill leachate is quite complex and hard to characterize. I think, you can prepare synthetic landfill leachate based on your exact requirement. I understand your aim is phytoremediation, so decide the interest contaminants (organic or inorganic), then mimic the natural concentration levels in synthetic procedures.
