Vector position could be identified by Cartesian coordinate(x real axis and y the imaginary axis or X +/- iY) , and is used for, vector addition and subtraction more easily. The other is polar representation(R the magnitude and angle (Theta) with reference Xaxis) and is more convenient for vector multiplication and division, both method could be changed from Cartesian to Polar or Polar to Cartesian easily as needed. These methods are very useful for electrical engineers to draw voltage, current, KW, KVAR....vector diagrams of system, machine, equipment with respect to reference voltage vector, to study the performance, to find the efficiency(in phase component of current (loss plus energy transfer component)) and working power factor.
