Dear RG members
I prepared coumarin derivative by reacting phenolic compound and ethyl acetoacetate via Pechmann condensation reaction. In the first trial, the physical appearance of the product is off-white, while in the second trial, the product is pale yellow. The values of the melting point and TLC for both products are similar, as well as their spectroscopic data involving FTIR, 1H-NMR, and 13C-NMR. Why the prepared products have different colors?
