Primary data through survey and seconday data through datastream.  Ok.. Good.  The secondary data is a economic value only, so its not affect the primary data.  So, donot worry about that.

What type of analysis you want to do it with SPSS software. You are not mentioned in your present question.

Both types of analysis are different from the roots. First make it very clear that results of both type of analysis  are not comparable while you can support your secondary data result with your primary data findings. according to my viewpoint.

As you have said that you are going to use regression and correlation for checking the relationship, i agree with your approach. 

Regarding secondary data analysis, if you have multiple year data-set and all variables are time variant then you can use panel data regression.

After completing all analysis, support your secondary data findings with primary survey results.

Think you might need to consider the following:

1) establish there is relationship between primary data enterprise risk mgmt & secondary data economic value added - this can be done via literature review (not only in terms of theoretical framework but also the methodology i.e. linking e.g. independent variable (primary data) to the dependent variable (secondary data)

2) once supported by the literature, you need to ensure the companies (entire population) that you are collecting the primary data sample were involved or being part of the compilation of the economic value added statistics (secondary data normally is historical data).  E.g. the person who will be responding to your enterprise risk mgmt questionnaire should based on the his or her mindset / understanding during the period when the economic value added statistics were compiled i.e. not based on what s/he is doing / thinking right now.

3) you can't include companies as part of your primary data collection that they didn't involve / part of the economic value added statistics

4) take note some companies / potential respondents that previously involved in the economic value added statistics no longer accessible by you (this will reduce your sample size)

Need to address the above appropriately as the reviewers / examiners might question your approach during article review / viva.  All the best.

Simply speaking and according with your explanation I Think we are talking about Pearson Correlation or partial and simple and multiple linear regression to achieve the relation between entrepreneur risk and economic value added.

To Correlation you must activate Analyse menu and choose sub-menu correlate option partial to open partial correlations after select the variables in box dialogue partial correlations field controlling for year finally execute run command and save.

To regression linear we must activate analyse menu select sub menu regression option linear to open the dialogue box linear regression select the dependent variables ans independent variables on box linear regression activating statistics selecting model fit and descriptive on the field regression coefficient put extraction of estimates coefficients and confident intervals execute run
