If anyone wants to become expert in power electronics & drives( specially in SVPWM), does he need to know programming languages( like C, C++), should he have various software skills( like PSIM, LABVIEW, SABER) or only simulink is enough to become efficient? Suppose the student is from electrical engineering background & he doesn't have programming skill like C, C++.

In the nearest future, we are going to be seeing medical doctors, lawyers, artists, cooks, musicians, architects, and host of full-fledged professionals that are programmers. The reason being that most of the software programs being used by these professionals are beginning to demand specific knowledge of the professions. Presently, most of these software are developed by multi-skilled software engineers who have electrical-engineering/physics/electronics-engineering backgrounds.
There is a big gap between being a user and being a developer. If you are in the middle of a development chain, then what you use will be the product of another developer.
To understand your question, I searched for the meaning of SVPWM and downloaded this document "SVPWM Basic Theory and Transfer Characteristics", which I have attached.
Going by the type of modules, circuits, devices and chips contained in this document, then it will be necessary for anyone who wants to be an EXPERT in this field to acquire programming languages skills. Ordinarily, you can be a user with the knowledge of using the following packages: PSIM, LABVIEW, SABER) or simulink.
Power electronics & drives applications are developing very fast in the field of robotics and this purely software engineering field. Just this afternoon, 13:00 CET, on CNN, I watched and recorded a documentary on India called "India 2020". Believe me, you need to see this documentary.
Just about three weeks ago, I started having this feeling that, it is not enough to say that you have programming skills. It is much more important to say on what you are using that programming skills.
So, to answer your question, the person NEEDS to acquire programming skills.

Dear Debottam! It needs to determine what you mean by word of "expert". If you want to employ a microcontroller to implement SVPWM for controlling an induction motor, for example, then you will have to have some level of programming skills to do it. But if you want to understand the operation modes of the inverters and its different loads, including any type of motors, choose and evaluate the control systems and controllers, then it will be enough to know the theoretical background of SVPWM and its implementation by Matlab Simulink. SVPWM can be designed by typical blocks of Simulink due to its mathematical nature. If you're the student of electrical engineering specialising in power electronics and drives, you will be able to use Simulink properly to investigate space vector modulation without deep or any knowledge of programming. Check the Google or RG and you'll find a number of the guidelines for SVPWM simulation without links to programming skills. Just start to do it and you'll succeed! Best wishes!
You can implement it using Labview, no programming used, also you can do it using electronics devices but it will not be an easy job.
