Dear Yasin,

I am a very old research man, more than 90. I have published in Research Gate a chapter of my book : « Avatars de la vérité », explaining in French my work about Coanda Effect.

Other chapters deal with « The whole truth » after Aldous Huxley ; What the Frog’s eye tells the Frog’s brain, after Warren Mac Culloch ; The Persistence of Bad Luck in car waiting lines, after W. Feller, etc, etc.

I also wrote some stories, among them one about automotive engineering : below find a short abstract from it, (in french!), just for the fun :

« Un peu plus loin, le gros camion qu’il suivait sans pouvoir le dépasser accéléra son allure, puis freina brusquement, sans doute gêné par quelque obstacle devant lui. Il fallait faire quelque chose pour ne pas s'écraser sur le camion. Plus précisément, l'ordinateur du tableau de bord devait décider entre quatre manoeuvres principales et leurs combinaisons possibles : freiner à fond ; braquer à fond puis braquer en sens contraire ; passer la marche arrière ; couper le moteur. Le choix était programmé en fonction de critères mesurables, dont le plus important était l'angle vertical sous lequel un système optique télémétrique placé sous le pare-choc avant voyait l'obstacle, en l'espèce le véhicule qui précédait, et l'identification du type de véhicule : la distance libre devant sa voiture, paramètre essentiel, était proportionnelle à la cotangente de cet angle. Un autre système différentiel mesurait en temps réel le coefficient de freinage, plutôt que de le déduire du temps qu'il faisait et de l'état de la chaussée. L'évaluation de chaque manoeuvre et du choix rationnel entre elles n'était utile que si l'ordinateur disposait d'un temps suffisant pour les mesures, le calcul et l'action. Dans le cas contraire, une lampe allumée indiquerait que l'ordinateur passait la main au conducteur. Pour lui, il ne pouvait que croiser les doigts et prier pour son salut et celui de sa voiture. Mais « elle avait l'ordinateur, il avait confiance ! »
