yeah...biotechnology may be widely used for production of genetically modified plants or animals but much of its OTHER use is hidden from public perspective..they still don't realize that the common soup they consume has much of biotechnology in it...
Really Miss Revathi not only a soup , all mother's are a biotechnologist ,they are using fermentation technology daily in kitchen to ferment milk to curd and rice to idly so biotech in every life do a reasearch in natural biotech process .,,,,,,,,

Biotechnology is the in-thing right now as one of the main branches connecting interdisciplinary studies which is fast catching up as the next big boom in the field of Science and Technology.
Primarily the reason being use of genomics to find a way to discover a drug by studying the genome of an organism, re-annotate the entire genes and through various interdisciplinary studies involved in drug discovery process like cheminformatics, virtual screening, docking etc etc to find a cure for the innumerable incurable diseases and / or drug resistant strains of organisms like Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
Someone said in a seminar that BT means 'Bharat Tomorrow' and IT stands for 'India Tomorrow'. Scope of all subjects depends on the end user, the end user has to have a real in-depth knowledge of the subject and develop a love for the same then only the subject will evolve to greater and greater heights and in turn provide opportunities for many others to follow.

What your telling is currect but now a day all reasearch focusing gene transfer only for example BT brinjal BT cotton , we have a solution for insect control but we are going to modify the nature to controling the insect.ecological methods there have to follow the methods .
Dr. Preetha Anil said appropriately about the biotechnology infect it is an inter and intra discipline branch of advanced science, It in its gambit the biology that include cells genes and the gnome dynamics.
