I agree with Anis there is no single book and almost everyone has their favourites. Depending on your interests and needs (research, teaching, up to date insights on practice, etc) there are many possibilities. Consider the contextual influences on HRM and look at books from Europe, US and elsewhere. Consider also theoretical developments and applications in sustainability and ethics. Here are just some I have relied on for teaching and research (may be updated versions of some/all so do check):
Legge, K. (1995). HRM: Rhetorics and realities. Basingstoke: McMillan.
Mayrhofer, W., Brewster, C., & Morley, M. (Eds.). HRM in Europe. Taylor & Francis. First published 2004 and updated. Last version I have consulted 2016.
Noe, R., Hollenbeck, J., Gerhart, B., & Wright, P. Human Resources Management: Gaining a Competitive Advantage. McGraw-Hill Education. Last version I have consulted 11th edition.
Harney, B., & Monks, K. (2014). Strategic HRM: Research and Practice in Ireland. Orpen Press.
Boxall, P., & Purcell, J. (2016). Strategy and human resource management. Macmillan International Higher Education.
Boselie, P. (2014) Strategic human resource management: A balanced approach. Tata McGraw-Hill Education.
