India is importing almost all oil seed crops not only for edible oils but also industrial use oils too. Though our climatic conditions are suitable oil seed crops cultivation and government is also giving much importance to these crops. Apart from this what are the other best methods for promotion of oil seed crops in India.

identify crop suitable for different kind of soil and nutrition status base
Diverfication of oulseed crops should be takwn up. Emphasis shoyld be on crops like linseed, niger, sesame etc. and on oil production from cereal crops like rice and corn. In addition genetic improvement of traditional oilseed crops need to be enhanced. Policies for prduction and availibility of quality seed and srengthening marketing of the produce should get due priority.
Dear Rajashekhar Mandla Thank you for asking an interesting, but a relevant technical question. To my opinion, following meaures merit attention for bringing oilseeds self-sufficiency in India:
1. Assured procurement oilseeds at MSP,
2. Complete ban on blending of palm oil with any other edible oil,
3. Reducing import of palm oil,
4. Reducing edible oil consumtion to the level of 12 kg/capita/yea,
5. Effective and eficient implementation of oilseed mission inclusing "mustard"
mission,
6. Promotion of high-yielding hybrids in toria, sunflower, safflower and castor,
7. Promotion of safflower and linseed in rice fallow areas of eastern India,
8. Enhancing oil recovery by ensuring 100% crushing through solvent extraction,
and
9. Promotion of non-conventional oilseed crops such as jatropha tree (Jatropha curcas), karanja (Pongamia pinnata), mahua (Madhuca indica), neem (Azadirachta indica), rice bran, etc.

1. Incentive prices as the productivity of majority of oilseeds is low
2. Identiifcation and notification highly suitable areas for low cost cultivation
3. Promoting rural agri based oil seed extravtion units
