I am performing polymerization using redox intiators (benzoyl peroxide and N,N dimethyl hexyl amine). I am bit confused in balancing these equation. Could any one help me out ?. I use 1 eqv of Lauryl peroxide and 2 eqv of amine.
Maybe the information included in the paper (Macromolecules 2006, 39, 2072-2080; Article Reactivity of Benzoyl Peroxide/Amine System as an Initiator ...
) can help. There are examples with other amines, especially derivatives of aniline, but the mechanism should be exactly the same.
Look at the attachments. I have drawn the balanced equation and the mechanism.
Tertiary amines are used for activating the peroxide. First amine react with the peroxide and then there is redoxporocess with will generate to radical initiators for thenpolymerization. The reaction between amine and peroxide is a second order reaction.
