As a researcher, what would be your reaction when someone cites your work out of context (accrediting a statement or finding to your work whereas you didn't make such statement or recorded such finding in your work)? Should you write to the publisher or the author to express your view seeking for possible correction, or just keep quiet?
I would make a record by the responding to both the authors and the publisher. Impress on both what the correct information and context was in your publication, and suggest a remedy in a published erratum by the offending authors. There may have been an innocent error and the correction could me published. Otherwise if the publisher and author ignore these corrective measures, you have at least a record of your attempt if that becomes important in the future. Good Luck!
Chukwuebuka - it's not a case of keeping quite as such - but there is probably little point approaching the author or publisher. Neither are likely to do anything about it to change it 'after the fact'. There is a famous saying 'all publicity is good publicity'. I tend to work on that principle. As long as authors have done nothing damning or damaging in their 'artistic' interpretation - then I do not worry about it. I have seen many examples where authors have cited my work - and I doubt that they have even read the full article - perhaps just the title and/or abstract.

Chukwuebuka - in answer to your question to me - Robert has posted an eloquent response that says it better then me.
Quoting directly makes the work look rather plagiaristic. However, for the sake of originality one tends to rewrite the quoted phrase or text so as not to be guilty of plagiarism, though he still has to acknowledge d owner of d original text. When the latter is the case then the possibility for being quoted out of context may arise since not all writers are well grounded in English Language or interpretation of concepts.

May be the author misunderstood what you wrote while he is trying to rewrite your result. Therefore, try to communicate with the author and if he/she is not willing to accept your idea then write to the journal he has published the paper. As @ Robert M Thompson said it will be your proof that you have tried to correct them.
I totally agree with the Dr. Robert M. Thompson.
And in addition to that, PubMed has an option of comments on the published material where one can record his /comments.
Moreover, In case , the issue is quite sensitive and a corrective measure is very much necessary, then i guess a commentary or communication can be written on the topic which itself counts for another publication. .
