In developing A.I. in the future I've several questions. A primitive sensor, would that be used for A.I. in a sleep mode to download programs much like as people we sleep? Will there be a belief maintenance or only short term memory for that? IN other words will A.I. only have limited knowledge to the task they preform?If so will A.I. or segments of it be able to become autonomous.Right now I presume everything is programmed and their is a programmer or team of them.

You are right thinking that everything with AI is programmed. More and more complex such AI programs are being developed, they are complex in relation with the task they are meant to accomplish.
The downside of complexity is that the more complex they become, the more lengthy and complex their training becomes, because they need to be trained into providing the right solution before being put in service. Simple 1 or 2 layer neural networks are easy to program, but starting at 3 layers, heavy training is required. New very efficient deep learning techniques have now been developed to help the process.

Contrary to urban legend fed by science fiction stories, there is no chance whatsoever that any AI program ever becomes sentient, or autonomous, for the simple reason that they are not alive.
Looks like they will forever miss the emotions required to become sentient, because it doesn't seem possible to simulate a limbic system such as is causing us to be sentient. This recent paper explains the function of the limbic system in causing us to be sentient:

We have already autonomous facilities like coffee machines. A.I. pretends to be replacement of humans.

Thank you all for the recommendations of more reading. I look forward to that. On the reply of Andre Michaud I agree with science fiction and real life robotics companions for mainly elderly people it is us who find the human traits in the AI when in reality at this time they are machines devoid of the human characteristics of emotion. However I am wondering if and when an AI gets used to a certain human interaction with one specific human would the AI notice when that human is no longer in any form of communication with the AI?When that happens will the AI be re-programmed to forget the Human being and only keep the learning it got from that person or will it in what I think will be a primitive memory sensor always remember the teacher of it?I know this sounds far fetched but who knows where the technology will lead in 30 years from now?

When I have read about AI algorithms. In the future if information is erased except basic information on what I refer to as a primitive sensor( for some kind of memory) I am wondering if all the AI robotics will have a shared memory? If and when they understand the human innovation of time will they understand agents of time for a better word?In that they will become aware that information that they had had been lost to them and their only reference point is an original shared program? Anyway I have questions without answers.
