At what press., discharge reed valve opens in a reciprocating compressor designed with 8 bar working press? When the compressor states that the working pressure is 8 bar, Is the pressure at the end of each stroke inside the cylinder is 8 bar? The compressor has reed plates as suction and discharge valves. How can I know at what pressure the reed valve opens?
The reed valve opens as soon as the pressure inside the cylinder is higher than the pressure outside.
The answer has to be a little corrected: as soon as the pressure force inside is higher than the sum of forces acting on the outside of the valve. The valve is under a FORCE balance and not only PRESSURE balance since the active areas are not always the same on both sides.
The reed valve having flutter motion operation in the suction and discharge pulse ; depends on the pressure differential that is build between the in-cylinder and external region(outside the valve). So a lower pressure inside the cylinder may create the suction and a higher pressure may lead to a discharge.
So certain pressure losses or increased pressure are likely to be considered during the operation. As you said about 8 bar pressure at end of stroke ( depends on the philosophy of the reciprocating compressor uses for the valve lift and other factors) ; this may be the possible limit for the operation of the reciprocating compressor working between the suction and discharge pulses or phases.
