My research field is international relations. I deal with the question of how epistemic communities shape international politics. Regard to the coronavirus problem, I want to focus on how epistemic communities helped to decrease the uncertainty and complexity of the (international) political negotiations about the issue. I am open to cooperate on writing papers with other people.
l wish you to be succeeded in your field work.Every one must deal with this issue with more seriousness and cooperation, especially as this issue has become everyone's concern.
I think media is one of the ways to cooperate and improve the debate. Non-academic people may not have interest nor the background to make a research on their own. Then, when academics give interviews on national TV or write an op-ed or even a letter to the editor of some media, lot of myth are taken down and real quality information becomes available for regular people.
The responsibility of academics in this case of covid-19, as in other situations of social concern, are multiple. First, with respect to their immediate community, i.e., their students, their colleagues and their institutions more generally: move educational activities away from gatherings, online when possible, this is now being done all in an increasing number of institutions. Second, with respect to the larger public: help circulate correct information and debunk misinformation to the degree your own understanding and access to information permits. Infante's suggestion of using "media" makes sense, not only conventional media but social media. Other than one to one correspondence, it's pretty much the only way to reach "the public". What you can say will depend on what you know, about covid-19, about epidemic and pandemic disease, and about public health history and politics more generally. Scientists, historians, political economists, sociologists, etc., share your knowledge, engage in collective discussion of how the pandemic is being handled and how it has been handled and how it should be handled. Finally, if you know little or nothing about these issues, now is a good time to start learning, taking the time no longer spent in classes and meetings to inform yourself. There's plenty of information out there.
I am using my social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, LinkedIn to share my experience about COVID-19 because I have been in quarantine for the past 3 months in China and I'm encouraging my fellows back home in Africa to find something that makes them busy like Reading books, watch movies and do physical exercise to keep themselves healthy physically and mentally 🙏
As an academics we should spread the right information through every media we can. ANd also it is our responsibility to identify and stop the spread of fake news through different media.
