I am starting my Masters in Education (Research) and will be exploring the seeming disconnect that high school students have with the natural environment, and how that impacts on their engagement and achievements in their science classes.
I am also interested to illuminate the experiences and perceptions of teachers in relation to their students disconnect with nature.
I had a very brief experience of teaching at High School level. But, I can very well relate your question to my experience. My students were cut off from nature as the school was situated in a city and students had access to their cell phones. The school did not provide them any chance to interact with the nature. It had a great impact on the mentality of students in the class. Whenever, I presented them an example related to nature, they would be unable to relate or even understand it. Therefore, many of my examples and concepts would go in vain. I belong to Pakistan.
