Some of the catalysts are not environmentally friendly when disposed after use. Can you help me understand what you mean by "clean energy".
Clean energy sources are those that don't emit pollutants to the environment during their energy production. For example, electricity production from coal-fired power plants is not a clean energy technology because coal burning emits gaseous pollutants such as CO2, CO, NOx, SOx, particulate matter, Hg, etc.
Examples of clean energy technologies include electricity production from wind turbines, ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC), wave energy conversion (WEC), and tidal energy conversion (TEC). Other clean energy sources include solar PV and concentrated solar power (CSP).
If you studied life cycle analysis (LCA), you will realize that all energy sources emit pollutants in some of the LCA phases and, hence, there is no absolute clean energy sources. You have to look at it on a "relative" scale. That is to say, wind power is a cleaner source of energy compared to coal-fired power plants and so forth.
PS: recyclable catalysts is rather a matter of sustainability.

Thank you for the good explanation, you have answered my question. This is an interesting field indeed.
You might develop a different catalyst or make a life cycle purchase agreement with the supplier. Some larger users regenerate the catalyst. Examples are slow burning of carbon fouling, solvent washing, leaching operations, steam regeneration, ion exchange..
