I beg to disagree with the attribution of talent to hard work. It is like saying that being a genius is hard work. Whatever happened to prodigies? Talent, I believe is a natural ability or skill, if so then genetic and therefore heritable. Since it is natural, it means hard work was not involved in its early development. Hard work only accentuates it and confers on it expertise.

I agree, Maurice, but equally many talented people are lost to poverty for example. Conditions must be right, as well as talent being there. Throughout life I have found truly talented people in many environments, but often they too fall by the wayside. I have equally come across many whose talent was as much to do with opportunities of birth as with ability.
