The issue aggravates when there are drilled holes  in the walls of wells. The sideways or horizontal bores penetrate the aquifer and give a better productivity.

1. Social activist Shri Anna Saheb Hazare(India) had successfully started the practice of no drawing of water from common storages. There was a model code of conduct for the people drawing water from wells. Bores were not allowed.

2. Dewas in Madhya Pradesh(India) has had a array of ponds in the private lands as well . This has recharged the aquifer to a point that he problems in water availability for the individual household and the resourceless minimised.

Punishment for collecting rainwater on their own property in Oregon, USA was an interesting example, the efforts of Shri Anna Hazare in mobilising communities for not drawing of water from common storage and model code of conduct for the people for drawing water from wells are useful restrictions.

Also, there are quite a few theoretical insights into the issue but we are looking at examples of implementing the concept on the ground. There are market arrangements for water sharing like water markets.

I am looking for small examples of bore well/well water sharing between farmers. Rules and regulations involved around the sharing mechanisms, crop planning based on water availability etc. The important part is that the community considers the aquifer as commons. It would be useful to learn from such examples and plan intervention.

I am aware of an example from Maharashtra undertaken by Vilasrao Salunke ji, but more such examples would be helpful.

there are several works that have been done with game theory and have been applied in the field. It's very commun in african contries; there some districts are using water rights and also having land rights.
