I was wondering whether introduced flora or fauna are capable of inducing top down control over an ecosystem rather than just drastically out-compete the locals. Also, the consequences of such actions lead to what? I would be very pleased to have, if there are any, examples for this. Thank you!
A lot of bad examples, Gabriel, esp from fragile ecosystems of Oceania, Australia, new Zealand etc. Smts it happen long time ago and now the immigrant isn't dangerous (dingo in Australia), canadian cat-fish in the river Tisza basen etc... If it became key species it means that original ecosystem is changed seriously, as this bastard is changing trophic relations between aborigens! You even cannot note how they will destroy several native species as our knowledges about variety of Nature are still very poor!
But I want to tell you that for infusoria and other unicell it (invasion) can be priority in geographical distribution, that is mainly sporadical and world-wise. Endemism and relic status is rather rare, so enough hars to describe subspecies!

Interesting question, I am not biologist or that knowledgeable about worldwide invasive species, but agree it can be and is a problem. I got to thinking, consider man. We can live in and take over and dominate almost any ecosystem. And in some instances, the invasion of other species has been due to our own, short sighted or uninformed decisions or actions or mistakes.
