I am inducing mutations in cowpea using gamma rays. I would like to know if there is a specific dosimetry method for cowpea and if not, which one would you recommend?
The reason I am carrying out dosimetry is to be able to estimate Absorbed dose.
Please see the 2014 paper attached below: "Cytological Effects of Gamma Radiation and Its Impact on Growth and Yield of M1 and M2 Plants of Cowpea Cultivars" DOI:10.1508/cytologia.79.195
In the paper, at Method section, it described:
"Five cowpea cultivars widely cultivated in Egypt were used in this study. Seeds of these cultivars were kindly provided by the Agriculture Research Center, Giza, Egypt. The five cultivars differ in seed characters and seed weight. Dry seeds of the five cowpea cultivars were exposed to five doses of gamma radiation at the atomic energy center in Nasr City, Cairo, Egypt using cobalt 60 as a source. The applied doses were 50, 100, 200, 300 and 400 gray (Gy); seeds of control samples were not exposed to irradiation."
Also, here I attached an 2018 ebook for you. You might find it useful. It was published by FAO, an Unite Nation branch. The title of the book is "Manual on MUTATION BREEDING (3rd EDITION)".
