I have heard about it, but I did not find it in the literature that its possible to insert mini-screws in the maxilla and mandible along with placing an elastic to prone the mandible to growth. If anyone has heard about this, please let me know with a reference.
I dont think we can achieve growth modification for skeletal class II by using mini-implants and elastics. May be it wil help to achieve only in dental class II and not in skeletal class II
There is unpublished data to suggest that during Class III mechanics using skeletal anchorage and springs that the condyle bends forward shortening the distance from condylion to pogonion. This data comes from research currently being conducted by Peter Buschang and a colleague in Colombia, Samuel Roldan. If this turns out to be proven then it is theoretically possible that the reverse might be true. Class II mechanics using skeletal anchorage might bend the condyle posteriorly, increasing the length from condylion to pogonion. But as far as I know there is no published data yet on either.
A recent paper in Progress in Orthodontics suggested that there is no significant difference of using mini-implants and class II elastics on the amount of orthopedic correction. I have attached the link below.
