I am interested in studying painting from the perspective of phenomenology and cognitive science, and in particular what artists experience during the painting process. There exist many videos of artists' discussing step by step "the making of" their paintings. I believe that these videos are of critical importance, since they often show what is in the mind of artists without any triggering from interviewers. Accordingly, I wonder if there exist any structured methods in qualitative research that can help analyze this material, and can complement interviewing methodologies.
