concerning the creation of thoracolumbar burst fractures I can recommend the paper of

Do you mean the mechanism of different types of spinal fractures ? If so you may refer to the classical papers of Denis and Magerl et al. Both classifications based on the mechanical forces applied to the spine are still valid. In short, Chance fracture is the result of hyperextension and flexion, while burst fractures happen when hyperloads along the spine axis are applied. Combinations of forces are possible which leads to break down to subtypes.
