I'm working on forest phenology-climate change relation in Yunnan, China. From literature review, I knew that in tropics and semi-arid areas rainfall controls vegetation phenology, but could'nt find any models on what degree to affect daily precipitation on vegetation phenology.

Green-up is a fascinating feature of the temperate zone and subtropical highlands, also in my current country of residence (arid to sub-humid). Here we see about twenty vegetation landscapes each with its characteristic vegetation phenology (estimated by hyper-temporal imagery). Evidently, timing of precipitation plays a role, but also temperature (night frost is common; winter versus summer rain) in some of our landscapes; species characteristics play their role, e.g. some woody species start always greening before the rain, other "wait" for the first substantial rainstorm of the season. Terrain is another driving variable; greening-up in dry river valley bottoms precede greening of adjacent slopes by up to two months (same woody species). Substrate, say sand, rock or clay, appear to drive phenology on the landscape scale as well.
Hope my story broadens the scope.
